About US History of the Foreign Joint Services NCO Association
The Foreign Joint Services NCO's Association (FJSNA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1976, by Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand. It is the only worldwide NCO Association existing in the United States. Initially, the purpose of this Association was to foster comradeship among foreign NCO's assigned in the Washington Metropolitan Area. During its 30+ years of existence, the Association evolved dramatically with the full support of the United States Armed Forces. It has currently 15 member Countries + all five American Services are part of it. The five Senior Enlisted (E-10) are also members of the Association. A meeting is hosted monthly in a different Embassy or by one of the five American Services.
In the past the members had the opportunity to train with their American counterparts:
- boot camp and advanced training with the Marine Corps, hosted by the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps
- visit to the Air Force Senior Enlisted NCO Academy and Nellis AFB with the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
- at sea and at the Coast Guard Academy with the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard
- visit of a nuclear submarine with the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy
- visit of the National Observatory with the Commandant of the Naval District of Washington and other similar events
Today, the Association emphasizes shared training, education, and social activity among its members. The relationship with the American Armed Forces is extremely strong and the Association works very closely with the USO of the Metropolitan Region.
After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, its members organized three years in a row, an international dinner for the troops stationed in the Washington area (more than 400 guests at each of these events). In 2005 the Association offered an international dessert to our wounded comrades at Walter Reed Hospital. We also participate every year in the Mothers Day celebration at Ft Andrews AFB in Maryland.
For more than 30 years, our association has managed to bring people together and has become much more than just a group of individuals who share the same ideas.
Today we are recognized as a well respected organization that achieves its goals thanks to the commitment of every member.
